Useful stuff

Stand up paddle boarding (SUP) is a perfect activity for the whole family, even your dog can come along!

With so many rivers, lakes (and beaches) it is a great way to get some exercise, spend time outdoors and re-set the mind and body.

Throw it in the back of your car and off you go – easily carried in the supplied backpack, and once you get to the water it only takes 10 minutes to unpack and get ready to paddle.

Before you get out on the water its important to see if you need a licence, which you can get from British Canoeing.

To help you make the most of your board, below are some of the companies and organisations that we have found useful.

BRITISH CANOEING

British Canoeing work in partnership with all the major waterway authorities to allow paddlers to have one licence as part of their 'On the Water' membership.

British Canoeing's licence covers 1,000s of miles of waterways in England and is excellent value, plus the money they generate contributes towards the maintenance and protection of waterways.

ADVENTURE NENE

Paddleboard, Canoe, Kayak, Sail, Windsurf, or Raft building – whether you just want to have a go, learn a new skill or gain a new qualification, Dan Wallace at Adventure Nene can design a bespoke course/programme to suit your requirements!

Operating out of Sibson Marina (which is near Nene Valley Railway) and Yarwell Mill County Park and Voted No1 on TripAdvisor for Tours, Experiences & Outdoor Activities in Peterborough.

BSUPA

The British Stand Up Paddle Association (BSUPA) ithe National Association and lead body for SUP in the UK.

Membership is relatively inexpensive and includes Worldwide 3rd Party insurance as standard and access to events, advice and information. Individual membership is £25/year.

HUNTINGDON CANOE CLUB

Focussed on kayaking and canoes rather than SUPs, but if that is also an interest, then the Club and its members are really welcoming and friendly.

With a variety of their own boats to use, they also organise Saturday morning river trips, weekday sessions and in the winter, pool sessions. Contact them for more details.
